Eddie Read, did someone have a radar gun?I remember a few years ago some guys pointed a cops radar gun at a horse coming down the stretch, (another track, England maybe) and the horse bolted, sorta like those two in the Eddie Read. According to the jocks comment Thorn Song had never shown any inclination to bolt, and horses who are covered up are often more likely to do that in my opinion, and Thorn Song was not. The real point is what happened to Monterey Jazz, who ran away with his jock. Something spooked those horses, and of course there are some buildings high enough on the backside to get a view of that turn. I wonder if anyone is looking into this.
Re: Eddie Read, did someone have a radar gun?A wild guess here but Thorn Song seemed to bolt to the right just as he was on top of a turf dis-colorization (light spot) on the turf which could have appeared to the horse as a puddle or something and he just did what he had to do to avoid it.
Re: Eddie Read, did someone have a radar gun?I thought someone on the TV broadcast said that the trainer said TS has a tendency to bolt in the mornings during works. Anyone else hear that?
"And Afleet Alex just ran right by Giacomo like he was standing still!"

Re: Eddie Read, did someone have a radar gun?MIKE SMITH (Thorn Song) – “Man, did he duck! He just threw his head up and went. I knew he wasn’t hurt; he just saw something and he ducked. There’s a brick pillar over near there with yellow tape on it; maybe that was it. I did well to stay on. It’s a shame. He was cruisin’. If we keep going, who knows?”

This is where some Stable Inside-Info would come in handy, meaning if one were privy to any small equipment changes for Thorn Song's next out race, then you might be able to capitilize. I'm sure Mitchell is knowledgeable enough trainer to make the right adjustments on Thorn Song to where he will be primed for his next out race. The key is proper race placement which again Mitchell is adept at this too. So perhaps Thorn Song will be a "Value Play" next out if his price his higher than it was Sunday.

I watched that part of the replay about 10 times last night and there is indeed a dry/discolored patch at the exact spot TS bolts. Time to get out the spray paint. Re: Eddie Read, did someone have a radar gun?I thought I recalled hearing that Thorn Song was running for Mitchell for the first time, and that he had cut back on the b l i n kers signicantly for his start in the Eddie Read.
Whatever the cause, it should be looked into as much as possible. That could have ended very badly for both Thorn Song and Monterey Jazz.
Re: Eddie Read, did someone have a radar gun?At least there was no one outside of him when Thorn decided to do his dance to the outside fence.
That could have been bad......... If wishes were horses then beggars would ride-
& If dirt were dollars we'd all be in the black
