Why the heck do some you what to view a tragic scene of this poor horses life? What point or purpose would it do for your handicapping anyway. How sad you have to look back at a break down just for your pockets. Come on.

Somehow, Mi Rey kept going. With right front foot held in place only by skin and tissue

It wasn't the track

I think the repeated and gratuitous network showing of Go for Wand's breakdown in the 1990 Breeders' Cup led to restriction on televising (and later streaming) races in which there is a catastrophic breakdown. Replays are not shown on track here when there is a spill.

While some people evidently relish watching this sort of thing -- still quite a few Go For Wand breakdown videos on Youtube -- most people are appalled by it. This is especially true in, for instance, watching a race replay without being forwarned.

I, frankly, don't see much up side. Like all horses that die on the grounds (whether they are racing/training when they die, succumb to illness do something as bizarre as choking on an apple) are sent to U.C. Davis for necropsy. They look at pre-existing conditions, medications, etc. A lot is learned from this.

Of course, the original video has NOT been destroyed. It's just not available as streaming video on the CalRacing site.

Bejarano update --

Previous report that he would be out of the hospital today was a bit over-optimistic. He's actually getting out of intensive care today with no firm date of when he'll be released from the hospital.

From today's Stable Notes:
Jockey Rafael Bejarano, who suffered serious facial injuries in a spill on opening day, July 22, was released from Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla on Sunday
