Since all the other threads on the Santa Anita Derby are about LAL, Baffert, Gomez, Espinoza, how about the winner? What a nice colt for Jenny Craig. It would be nice if she could add a Kentucky Derby to her Epsom Derby trophy. Bittersweet I'm sure, but very special.
I'll be rooting for him.
Brings back good memories of Paseana, when racing was 17X better than it is now..
I kept thinking how ironic would it be for SC to bring Talamo back to the Derby, and like Joe says," I'll sleep in the stall if I have to keep him healthy". On paper the SC, LAL ex bx looked to easy . So I kept searching for someone to upset the apple cart and was pretty fortunate to come up with Setsuko for 2nd to cash the tri a few times. Now the question is can SC hold off all comers and speedballs in the derby ? I'm sure Doc had SC to win yesterday and will be his choice derby day.
I'm interested to see how Beyer works out the numbers between Sidney and Eskendereya. He's got that "dirt races are superior" crowd to please, you know. When I learned the game, a 1:48 timing was much faster than a 1:49.73... Yeah, we did variants then too, but we didn't base them on the previous ratings for nearby competitors. It was all about pars at the class.. sometimes fairly accurate, sometimes not.
At the SA meet, there have been six 9 furlong Graded Races at the meet..

Alphie's Bet - 148.3 (86)
