wow had no idea that's what the problem was - feel better soon, Mike !
“It is being reported that venerable Turfway Park track announcer Mike Battaglia underwent an outpatient procedure on Monday at Baptist Eastpointe in Louisville for en entrapped epiglottis after swallowing his tongue during the calling of the Lanes Ends Stakes on Saturday, March 27th.
"Says a spokesman from Baptist Eastpointe: “Mr. Battaglia tolerated the procedure, commonly known as a 'myectomy' without complications and is expected to make a full recovery in time for the Breeder’s Cup World Championships being held at Churchill Downs in November. Mr. Battaglia is looking forward to his role as back-up to the popular British announcer Mark Johnson in the event Mr. Johnson’s H2B visa is not renewed this summer.”
I fell for this 117% too.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Funny that Mike B. had open heart surgery on his throat - and as an outpatient, at that! Remind me to stay away from Baptist East.
If Mark Johnson doesn't get his visa renewed, I will marry him so he can get a green card. (Sorry, Chip - I'm just a heartbreaker.)

No worries, MW, you're going to be able to have your Cake and Chip Chip too if it all works out according to plan - and things always work out according to plan in thoroughbred racing, no???
“….while Mr. Johnson’s H2B visa was initially issued for a period of one year, a spokesman from the NTRA reports they have filed an application on his behalf with the U.S. Department of State for a change in status to H1B, which would allow him to remain stateside for a period of six years. If the application is rejected, the NTRA plans to appeal under the 'extraordinary circumstances' provision, which states in part “… may ultimately be longer than one year if the extended need could not be anticipated at the time of application .. '”
"The NTRA spokesman also confirmed the appeal would also cite a provision of extraordinary circumstances due to a potential breach to national security if “… in Mark Johnson’s absence, Mr. Battaglia was placed in line to announce the multiple championship races on Breeder’s Cup Day… '”

I've never believed it was possible to swallow one's own tongue.
Although there are guys who swear they could.
