been in top 10 in NY since he was an APPR--all trainers there use him and like him--i have made oodles of scorse with his mounts -ESP SARA 2008--he has been in NYRA CALENDAR ,many times --so stick that in your pipe and smoke it!
I am glad you like HIll and I do know by your posts you have made lots of nice scores on him, but lets be honest, other than Aqu (which is a horrible meet, with lots of small fields), he's not a top 10 jock in New York. Doesn't he move his business away during Saratoga when the really good riders come in? IN the fall Belmont meet I know he wasn't top 10.
im excluding year he went to CAL and messed up jockey agent relationship--2004 thru 2008 --and now with old agent in 2010--he had a positve ROI at SARA in 2008--long shot king that year and won a gr 1 for Frankel as i recall--kid can ride and as Hushion says ,the best kept secret at NY tracks--
That 2008 Spa Meet was the ONLY meet that Hill has posted a positive ROI in the last 5 years.
He was getting decent mounts at Hollywood last spring and couldn't do a thing with them.
A 10% win rate on the innertube this meet (vs. inferior jocks) tells the the story.
This winter was a great time for Channing to build some business and win races. He hasn't really done a good job of either. He's behind CC Lopez and Rosie Napravnik, the latter of whom came to NY last year for the winter with no business whatsoever but quickly proved herself as the best female rider in the eastern part of the country.
If the big money at Monmouth brings new blood in terms of the riding colony and Channing still thinks he can't hack it in NY, then he might end up at Philly or in Maryland.
No offense, but while you may have watched Channing's Hollywood Park races from the comfort of your own home or local OTB, I was on-track EVERY DAY at Hollywood Park (I live 10 minutes away from there). Channing did have some good mounts and more than a few times, a few handicappers gave out horses he rode as their plays of the day on local horse racing radio shows. His inability to win races out here had some to do with stock he rode, but more with his riding ability (or lack there of).
I point to his 10% win rate at the AQU innertube meet that ended yesterday. I'd like to hear your response to why that is.
his agent has two jocks --with R DOM agent getting most any horse he wants--Hill agent must try to get a live mount for both of his clients --that is the reason--Hill never rode SYNTH until Holly--some of early riding there was break-in time, which is only logical-He is established in NY and as BR MEIER said on "Jockeys " tv show -old established jock agents of BEJ,GOMEZ,SOLIS ,V ESP ,have been there decades and get top horses ,day in and day out--that is just a fact!
