Thursday Post Time at Los Al

Postby Masterp » Tue Jul 21, 2009 8:56 am

Does anyone know if the new Thursday Post Time at Los Al is permanent? An Experiment? Is it going over well? Basically any info. on it.

Personally I hate it. Betting Los Al on thursday has always been something I enjoyed for some odd reason and I just don't like the new early post time.

Amen!!!!! It stinks!!! I complained through e-mail several times and encourage you to do the same. Look for it to be pushed back maybe 15-20 minutes now that Del Mar starts but that is not enough for anyone on the west coast with a normal job. Trying to get there from any freeway is a nightmare :D

Did they mainly do it to try to capitalize on east coast bettors, or just eliminate time between the main so cal circuit ending and them beginning?

I'm actually on the east coast and you would think I would appreciate the 8:45 time out here, but I really prefer the 10:15 time. With most of the races happening in daylight, it just doesn't seem to have the same fun atmosphere. I know I'm weird on this one.

Thanks for the input White Hat.

Maybe to capitalize on more midwest bettors (as it translates into a 7:45 PM CT first post) since QH racing has never been big on the east coast as a rule. I suspect they may also be doing it since there would be little time between the end of Del Mar/start of Los Al as well, as well as capitalize more on bettors at Emerald Downs (which I believe has a 6:00 PM PT first post on Thursdays).

Reason seems pretty simple to me..

To capitalize on the Hollywood Park/Del Mar bettors to get the bigger pools since they would be starting a short time after the So Cal track is done for the day.

Though I agree that I don't like the 5:45 post either, I prefer the 7:15 meself..

Those are my assumptions as well.

Wally you are right, here in the Eastern Time zone, most bettors I have run into are not in the QH's. So I hope they didn't do it for that reason as 8:45 is still to late for most simul centers out here.

I don't know, I think they had a niche and maybe shouldn't have tinkered with it. Of course that's just my disappointment and opinion. Time will tell if it works or not.

I read on the LOS AL homepage that SANTA ANITA was NOW taking Bets on Thursday Races... perhaps that also is a factor; I, too, liked the 90 min. gap from So.Cal races to LosAL for relaxed handicapping. I do know Suffolk Downs only took the first 4 races on Thurs. & Sunday nites for simo action; I actually had to beg the Suffolk simulcast Director to continue including LOS AL on the Sunday lineup last winter; they would close Suffolk @ 8:30pm/ET during winter, & if Suffolk doesn't carry a track, I can't bet it thru TVG, since they're the Mass./TVG 'host' track.
