I enjoyed reading the article but I'm very disappointed that only 3 places in the whole state have signed up.That is shocking for a state that has over 10% of the US population. I've been to a few of the these joints all over the US and am looking forward to one opening close to Casa De Mook in Toluca Lake.

dont worry fredo they just need to iron some things out this will bemore common place in due time.. i think this is great fo california racing i just hope they expand the awful simulcast menu thats available to justify having all these betting parlors open.

I agree re: the OTB menu, its pretty lousy. And their limit on races per day makes no sense.My guess its just the tracks and otbs dont want to pay the personal to work. It has nothing to do with the time difference. The books in the midwest are open @ 10 am to midnight.
Having the new OTB joints is a step in the right direction. The days of Socal tracks getting 50K in attendance are long gone. I wouldnt be surprised if All American Joes in Burbank applies for one. We'll see.

I have lived in Washington, California and now Kentucky since I started playing the ponies. The most screwed up thing is the limit to simulcast imports in California. I believe the number is 50 imports, but I'm not positive. I think the theory is, the less imported racing to bet on, the more money being kept in the California pools. Give the fans full menus of racing and you'll be surprised as owners how much money is just thrown around on other tracks. I see it all the time here in Kentucky.

Also, there's nothing better than more discouraging than charging $5 to get into a dingy (existing, not anything new of course) OTB, then $6 for a DRF or whatever it is now, $2.50 for a program. Between the existing OTB's and ADW's, there's no comparison. Maybe the new mini-satellites will be a bit more hip to things. I'm hoping some good ones pop up for you guys still in CA.

Hollywood Park's Casino has always had betting on races.
Maybe Sports betting at these places is not far behind?
I know Las Vegas fights it, but at this point with California in need of $$$$, they may finally ignore the wishes of Nevada.

Nice thought Socal but I dont think we'll ever see sports betting in Caly in our lifetime...

Earlier today I heard a radio spot promoting race betting @ the Commerce Casino. Not bad production value, & they even had Gary Stevens do a voice over spot. They seem serious about having this be a success.
