Joel Rosario .................... 233 - 43 - 33 - 26 -- $1,996,104
Garrett K. Gomez ............. 172 - 37 - 27 - 29 -- $1,975,574

But... they are doing OK so far this year.
It's not that he is not doing well.. of course, he is.. He rides Blind Luck and Tuscan Evening, and some other stakes winners.
But when I look at the national polls for best horses.. When I see the best 3 year olds.. it seems his mounts are not quite as good as he deserves.. I'm also of the opinion that he doesn't have a real strong connection with some of the leading trainers. Doug O'Neill seems to like him a lot, but he is mostly a claiming trainer.. Many of the best trainers ride him, but to my mind, he's never getting the pick of the litter..
It's just my impression.. I may be wrong..
And what's up with Ramon Dominguez? All those wins and he only has 2.5million. Is he riding at Caliente now?

Almost - it's called Winter Aqueduct. 273 of those mounts at Aqu.
I feel the same about Rafael, should be #1 at the END of the year. It's still like the 50's on the West Coast... "nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to be stabled there".
Ramon has 98 more mounts than Gomez and is barely ahead, last year he had 700 more mounts than Gomez and finished behind him, thats why I say who gives a rats ass about riding titles? Dominguez, Rosario and Bejarano all win the riding titles, but at the end of the year they'll all once again be behind Gomez in earnings, it's QUALITY not QUANTITY, Gomez earns more per mount than any jockey in the country, Ron Anderson gets it, thats why he only cares about the high end races, not cheap claimers, the more races you ride the more chance of injury.
Of course, you're right.. But Garrett, Mike Smith and the other vets had to ride a lot of races for a lot of years before they can rest on their laurels and cherrypick some of the better mounts. Rosario and Bejarano haven't quite got there yet... They still need to win a lot of races... and create the trust that develops with the trainers and owners when repeatedly coming through for them..
A few of us in this forum have noticed how many days Rosario takes off. Surely, the owners and trainers get a little pissed when they have to go shopping for a rider and none of the top guys are available.... That ruins their trust. In that regard, Bejarano is miles above Rosario.. He shows up and does his job.
Why is Rosario all of a sudden a Prima-Donna? I don't see that at all - I see a talented and hard working kid working his tail off every day.
His missed days were because of colds or bang-ups, nothing more, nothing less.
Strange how all of a sudden he's getting this bad rap after he changed agents, which many jocks do over and over.
Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
