Thorn Song now with Mitchell

Thorn Song is back in California, and this time, it's to stay. He was sent west in May by trainer Dale Romans and won the Shoemaker Mile at Hollywood Park. He then returned to Churchill Downs for the Firecracker Handicap on July 4 but faltered and finished fourth. After that race, he returned to California, and owner Ahmed Zayat turned him over to trainer Mike Mitchell.

"Mr. Zayat is moving more of his horses to California," said Mitchell, who said he now has about 25 horses for Zayat. "He likes Del Mar. He's going to be here with his family."

Going in the Grade 1, $350,000 Eddie Read Handicap on Saturday at Del Mar.

I'm happy to hear that, since Zayat has a strong stable. Interesting contrast, because a year ago, he began pulling out because of the Polytrack.

That was two years ago he began pulling out.

Wonder how much pressure Thorn Song can put on Monterey Jazz. MJ is going great guns right now and I think
T Baze can do anything he wants with him.

Now you can see why I started this post wondering who the new trainer is. I had read that he was a real hand to train in the mornings. It was amazing that the jockey was able to stay on the horse after that move.

There didn't seem to be anything at all wrong with him physically. He came back to the finish line area looking quite pleased with himself and was led back to the barn by his groom.

the horse is a bit of a head case ...Mike Mitchell made a critical error in changing Thorn's b l i n kers without consulting Romans. Lucky nobody was hurt .... except for him hurting the chances of Monterey Jazz.... the bolting spooked the horse and caused him to run off... Global Hunter had no bizness winning a nice race like the Eddie Read. I think he will be a total bet against in his next Start ..I hope people jump off the Jazz bandwagon because his next start he should be back to himself and destroy the next field he faces.

Thorn sure acted like he saw a ghost. And after that little sideways dance Mike Smith was probaly white as a ghost-
