Sunday at FG - 5th race / 3YO fillies, $12,500 claimer...
Taking a break from digging a massive flower bed (larger than the entire lawn of my first house) and this race comes on HRTV.
We are watching the horses at the post and Alice says "let's face it - all horses are ugly compared to Zenyatta". I smile and say
"well, look at that 2 horse, she looks really good, buff, on her toes, ready to run - let's bet her exacta box with all and win, place (play $$$)".
And away they go, I see P Val is riding her and takes her to the front, she is 9/2. Now, staying in front with FG's .777 mile stretch
isn't all that easy. Pat keeps the horse interested and holds off the late charges for a nice win. The horse is prancing around.
I'm thinking - P Val we all know was truly great out of the gate, but remember he could hold them together as good as Pincay. But here
he is at the FG pounding out a living and carrying an * on his career. The horse - looks great, maturing properly (seems like), running in a $12-5 claimer on the
mosquito coast, will probably disappear eventually.
But today, I saw Patrick and the horse in that perfect communication gettin' the job done and that other stuff didn't matter. BTW, HRTV guys were very nice to P Val in their comments.
Next time you see Azuma Banker running, drop a Hamilton on her.
