How many of us saw this coming from the day Jackson agreed to face Zenny in the Apple Blossom??? I mean really ... Did we really think Jackson would show???
Rachel Alexandra Out of Apple Blossom

It isn't ducking, it's called protecting the horse. As they say, there will be lots of racing later this year and plenty of places they can meet.
PW--I happen to agree with you on JJ. While his integrity has been going downhill ever since the BC evasion, he has now sacrificed the last and final shred of whatever he had left of it with this latest move. He has turned out to be nothing more than a bate-and-switch con artist. For those who have worshipped the gold silks with the red V and are now hanging their heads with embarrassment, thee is still room on the Z train if you want to jump on.
As for Rachel Alexandra herself--this is no knock against her, after all she can't help but be the racehorse that she is, there is one and only one word to describe her now.
O V E R-R A T E D.
She is an over-rated racehorse.
"The bill approved in Congress to avert the so-called fiscal cliff would bring the first major tax increase on high earners in 20 years."
Wall Street Journal, Jan 2nd 2013
I FULLY expect Rachel and Zenyatta will NEVER face each other ... There will always be an excuse ... Jackson has the whole year to pull his head out of his a s s ... There is NO excuse for them not to face each other this year ...
If they don't meet ... Jackson will continue to be a blight on this sport and will in fact have cemented himself as one if he dodges Zenny this year as he did last year.
The Moss' took Zenyatta out of retirement to give us a chance at the matchup everyone wanted to see ... Yet Jackson continues to run and hide ...
Now WHO is the true sportsman???
Nice to hear some perspective from someone in the business. Could you imagine if JJ ran the horse knowing she wasn't right? Then imagine if something happened to Rachel? Now, imagine the uproar from the all-knowing DMFF if this happened?
"Jess Jackson puts money before the welfare of his horses"
"The NTRA should ban them for life"
"Assmussen should be in jail"
etc., etc., etc.

Do you guys really care that much if the two horses meet?? Really
Bingo Doug....can you imagine what kind of incredible responsibility it is having a HOY in your barn? JJ pushed for this a bit I think, and it bit him in the butt....but Rachel will be back....of this I have no doubt....and all these armchair trainers can go....um....you know what I'm saying,
And who knows? By then there could possibly be THREE fillies vying for best in the land.....
It's not just skipping out on this race ... It's that Jackson intentionally avoided Zenyatta all year last year ... It's the combination of the two ... It's obvious Jackson is scared to death of facing Zenyatta ...
He had Rachel for 6 months leading up to the Breeder's Cup Classic last year ... There's NO reason he shouldn't have had her aimed at the Super Bowl of racing in North America. Except that he was ducking Zenny ... That combined with his saying he was going to the Apple Blossom and then backing out is the issue here ... The combination of the two.
Rachel ran a VERY good race and lost ... It's as simple as that. She showed a lot of heart and held strong in a stretch duel ... I didn't see ANY fitness issue there. She always struggles over a mile. And THIS time she held strong better than usual.
It wasn't a fitness issue and I doubt Asmussen or Jackson believe that. Anyone who watched the race could tell Rachel held strong longer than usual once crossing her mile threshold.
What it was was losing to Zardana and then realizing that if Zardana beat them ... They wouldn't be beating Zenyatta ... And heaven forbid should the great Rachel lose 2 races in a row. They had second thoughts about facing Zenny and fitness is just an excuse.
Rachel held strong and looked strong out there and ran a great race. It's not like she cratered. She fought hard and was just narrowly outdueled.
In a strange way ... In her defeat ... I gained a lot of respect for Rachel because she fought her a s s off ... Much more than I had for her before the race ... Last year beating mainly glorified allowance horses(in any other year) with the exception of Summer Bird and Colonel John just didn't do it for me.
Yesterday ... She showed me something ... Toughness and guts. Much more than I gleaned from her last year
Last year there was only one race that both RA and Z were eligible for together (of the ones they ran). It will be a lot different in that regard this year.
Thank you for stating that fact, O Great Green One......some of these folks just don't get that....THIS year is a complete new ball game......4 and up...and ONE race don't make a season....which is why Zenyatta isn't HOTY...
