Have to hope the last result was due to the way the race unfolded, and not a reversal of form. In that one Mr. Rod seemed to want the lead at all costs (and wound up last for his effforts). Pedroza made a reasonable decision to try to sit off him, but fought OTM so hard he got a "steadied" comment in the official chart and took all the fight out of him. Brad Free, picking OTM on top in the Sat form called the trip "rated, anchored and uncomfortable". His form looks a lot better if that race is a tossout. OTM might be the lone speed in this one, although Euroglide, mainly a sprinter, could give him a battle if he wants to. Euros last race, at a mile, he sat mid-pack and closed a bit. I don't think Euro's ever raced this far, so don't know what his strategy will be, but our game plan is to get the lead and try to stay there. Tyler is solid on a front runner, hope he can get him out of the gate as well as Martin did.
Massone looks like a solid choice on paper -- holds a siginficant class and Beyer edge on the field, but maybe the 9 post will cause enough difficulty to make him vulnerable. Tap it Light comes off a big win on a 14 month layoff, but takes a siginificant class hike. Winning a CA Bred NW1 he's eligible for open NW1, but shows up here in a NW2. Interesting Rosario winds up here and not on Massone. I think most of the calls for this race were made when Vic was still his agent. Mr. Big often breaks slow, but can run to his name with a clean start. Growing Pains could surprise at a price. Beat a field of 17 at Ascot, then had a solid US debut after 5 months on the bench. All his races have been on turf, but any kind of forward move puts him right in the thick of this one. We beat Joshua's Dream and Viscount os 12/30, so certainly possible to do it again. All in all a very competivie race, OTM deserves a look if 8/1 or better. Got some respect from DRF selectors, so might not go that high, no value if 6/1 or less. Would probably need a lifetime best to win it, but has been training well and a good start would give him a legit shot.
Since OTM is very popular, there could be a few thousand people more than usual at the track on Sat. If you're there, you should stay for the 7th -- this mare Zengagga (I heard she was named by Sting, after his girlfriend Lady Gaga) is supposed to be pretty good. Whispers on the backstretch call her a solid bet as low as 2/1. Despite the possible crowd, I may have some extra seats. Send an email with your cell number to alaidekman at aol and I'll call you when I get to the track if I have extras.
Congrats. Solid win. And I knew Tyler would give you a great (in front) ride.

Wow, that was sweet. Scratch of Euroglide sure didn't hurt, since that was the only horse that could have pressured him early. Still, you have to execute the game plan even if it is made easier. They gave him the first half, but he came home in respectable time after that (under 24 3rd qtr, under 24 fourth qtr, last 1/16 in 6:14.). Plus, got to see magnificent race by Z as a bonus. Doesn't get much better than that.
We'll nominate to two races on Gold Rush day (the 7.5f Tiznow and the 1 1/8 turf race) but Tiznow is a bit short (you get some sprinters going a sub 45 half in that one) and turf isn't his preferred surface. We'll pass on both if it doesn't seem right, but hope we make one of them. There is a race that day that fits A Jealous Woman like a glove, so maybe we'll make it a big day for DMFF.
Maybe one of you singled OTM and Z and did well in the P6?
He ran big.. and I was glad to see those wraps come off today. He was wearing them for his prior race, right? I bet him to win.. and then I sat back on my winnings and watched all the great racing...
