Since the Opening of Del Mar is only a couple of days away, I was somewhat amused that no one has complained or made any disparaging remarks about the Main Track which is the syhthetic Poly-Trak.
I presume then that most players & Del Mar regulars have either made the adjustment or have resigned themselves to accept it. Not meaning to sound boastful, but I myself belong to the former as I know Del Mar Track Mngt is not likely to go back to a conventional dirt surface.
The biggest difference from last year of '08 to the debut year, imho was Mngt got the maintenance of the Poly better than they did in '07 making the Poly a lot more kinder to Early Speed. Of course the minute I assume that the results from last year will hold up for the start of the '09 meet, well you lnow how that goes, all the Early Speed horses will finsish in the last place spots.
At any rate if anyone has any info or ideas how the Del Mar Poly will play the first week, I'd love to hear it. My forecast for the 1st week on the Del Mar Poly is for Mid-Pack runners to dominate & for the Early Speed Winners from last race @ Hollywood to finish 2nd, 3rd or OTM. Also watch for runners traineed by Sadler & Mullins as these two seem to have figured out the Method to the Poly over the other trainers.

I coulda sworn Sadler had something else going for him last year. I seem to recall some well-mannered discussion on this very forum about it. Perhaps someone with a better memory can recap it for us. Me, I expect him to bounce.

Don't you worry! The whiners and crybabies will soon be back.. blaming their losses on everything but themselves. Parimutuel gambling offers us no alibis.. It's me against you, plus the take. If I can't figure it out and you can, you win and I lose. Period.

Didn't the initial Polytrack break your 30 year winning streak?

Yes, it did.. I got shelled in the first year at Del Mar.. But my second year was a winning one - not at the level I'm used to, but a good meet overall. As noted in the initial post, Del Mar's maintenance was much improved in year 2. The track was much kinder to pace horses in the second year. You seem quite jealous of the fact that I win consistently at the race track. Why is that? Are you thinking your own limitations are mine too?

I'm not sure how the weather is going to play out this season, but it's going to be very hot over the next week. If you recall in the first year of the new track, the late afternoon sun would bake all that wax and rubber making it considerably slower. Last year they seemed to remedy this issue by watering the track a few times during the afternoon and the speed seemed to hold up for those races. I would suggest to those wagering at Del Mar to watch for the grounds crew watering the track and use that as an angle...... Just a thought!!!

Some seem to be really enjoying the ocean breeze, including but not limited to Rush With Thunder! http://www.drf.com/static/workouts/20/wDMR20.html
And remember...Things work out best when you make the best of the way things work out.

track seems to be on par time wise to HP and SAX....turf may be a little slower because of the tides/humidity there....and less heat.....they ran 1:08 and change for 6 yesterday at HP....

Even Baffert can win on Poly nowadays.
Thank God for the Federal Reserve. You can't have big government or big wars without them.
