opening day entries

Postby Maui » Sat Jul 18, 2009 3:06 pm

10 races, no split division of the oceanslide this year and not much in terms of quality horseflesh in between so basically it looks to be a quacko-filled day with tails in moderation for this kid.

What a sad display of a race card. One Allowance Optional Claiming $25,000 plus the Oceanside (why not split instead of having four AEs it's not like So Cal isn't the home of seven horse fields) -- the rest low level claimers. I know things haven't been as good as they were years ago ... but this shows just how backwards So Cal racing is when our premier summer meeting (Del Mar) can't put together a strong opening day race card. Sad indeed.

Racing secretary filled a card but I cannot remember so many lower level claimers. The landscape of So Cal has changed. I still feel 2 weeks from now it will be hard to fill a Wednesday card.

Agreed -- imagine if they were still racing 6 days a week. And while I now can't go on Monday's (which is one of my two days off) I will still do my best to enjoy watching racing (however low level) at my favorite racing venue.

Would have to agree...Just Pathetic that this card is what it is, almost every race is garbage. Can not even imagine how bad it is going to get the next 6 weeks.

I noticed how many entries were working at Santa Anita and/or Del Mar.
Obviously Santa Anita's barn area is full of horses who didn't enter or weren't too busy at HP.
I've been following the HP races everyday, and this card looks far better than most of their cards.
With the exception of several of the Stakes and Handicaps at Hollywood, that were top class graded races, their racing was on par with a mid-size track.
I'm more optimistic that the Del Mar meet will be okay.

Hope its more inspiring for Saturday when I'll be gracing the place with my presence. At least it will be cooler than this h*llhole . . .over 100 and "heat spots" rain. . .
