Hey its Feb-2010 & for the first time in a long while, I'm totally lost as to say who is the Top Older Male Horse is? Now if we were talking 3yo males then I wouldnt even be asking this question. Maybe this is due to the fact that the BC Classic having been run on synthetic tracks the last two years.
Or perhaps its a fluke in the calendar & theres a 4-5yo or even 6yo horse just waiting a month or two to emerge & show that he is the true Alpha Male horse. Also could it be that the effects of synthetic surfaces have dulled the running of G-1 races so much that no male horse is capable of winning 2-3 races in a row due to the nature in which synthetic races are run. Then immediately when I think about that statement I look at Zenyatta, but we dont know if Zenyatta is the same horse on dirt?
The closest I can think of right now as Top Male horse in the USA is Gio Ponti, but he really is a grass horse. What do others think about this if at all?
You can't possibly be implying that Macho Again could be the best male horse based on a close finish to a Rachel that fades over a mile? ... Truth be told ... Rachel has faced 1 Grade 1 horse in my eyes and that was Summer Bird. I think in almost any other year ... the others aren't running grade 1. I look forward to her facing a better crop this year. At least I hope so.
I think IF the best male horse running in the U.S. isn't Gio Ponti ... Then it's gotta be either Quality Road ... or a healthy Summer Bird or Rail Trip, if they pick up where they left off.
Pending what he does tomorrow I'd say Quality Road is the top male horse at the moment and that's only because Gio Ponti is going to run mainly on turf and synthetics this year and Dubai will knock him out for quite some time.
I have high hopes for Misrembered and Blame who were the first two finishers in teh Clark (in reverse order) as the former is active and running in the Strub while the latter is being freshened for a campaign geared specifically towards the Breeders' Cup.
No, it was a 100% tongue-in-cheek remark, poorly aimed I guess. A great deal was made of RA beating those males, whereas the BC was nothing because of the surface.
Was kind of funny to hear Mr Jackson say that Curlin lost to a much tougher BC field than the one Zenyatta beat
I don't see how the RA vs Zenyatta debate will ever be settled. Too many possible excuses after a loss for both teams.
I can tell you how it can be settled(if not on the track). MR Jackson can:
1)admit that he was wrong in using his star horse to play politics with synthetics
2)admit that his excuses fool nobody
3)apologize for the dis-service he did to the American racing public by not running his horse
4)admit that his horse won the HOY on grounds of bias and not of merit, and call for a thorough examination of the credentials for every single Eclipse voter, and then furthermore call for revisions on how Eclipse voters attain and maintain their voting credentials
5)recognize that his horse won HOY under false premises, and return the trophy so that it can be awarded to the best racehorse of 2009.
As to best male, I agree with the others--Quality Road.

Well ... As I've said in previous posts on this board ... You won't be seeing Rachel set foot on any track in a race involving Quality Road this year ... Jackson will be sure to dodge him ...
