On Saturday at Golden Gate by the Bay, Michael Wrona (who I consider the best announcer in the business) ceased to mention that the favorite had won again after the 7th race when 2-1 favorite Perfect Choice became the 17th favorite in a row to win a race at Golden Gate this week.
It was pretty funny listening to Michael's commentary during the streak after each race as favorites continued to win. He kept mentioning the streak as if it was Joe DiMaggio's record, and quite frankly, I was enjoying it, even though I was losing with my longshot mounts after each of those races.
Then he completely stopped reminding listeners of the winning streak even after Perfect Choice won the 7th race as the favorite once again. I though he simply forgot, but after Tango Tango won as the favorite once again in the 8th race, Michael didn't mention anything about the streak. That's not like him.
Strange, very strange.
Could it be track management asked him to stop talking about the streak of favorites because it might be detrimental to business? That's what I think because Michael was having too much fun with this to stop on his own.
Interestingly, the favorite almost won again in the last race, running second at 2.60 to 1 to the co-choice who had $77 more dollars bet on him and won at 2.70 to 1.
