I read an article in Equus (Nov'09) about using botox to help with founder (article is not online). I wonder if they tried that?
Basically what they do is inject the botox(toxin) into the deep flexor muscles and the toxin blocks the release of the chemical messenger that triggers the muscle contractions, causing localized muscular paralysis, so the coffin bone is not forced into rotation. The rotation of the coffin bone is what destroys the hoof.
I read that they have already cut the tendons so it may be too late to use the botox.
Prayers for Kippy seems to be helping . . . . . . please keep it up everyone.
