Turner Classic Movies 1952 Boots Malone
Boots Malone is jockey's agent and a bit of a wheeler-dealer who went from living at the Ritz to living in a room at the stables when his star jockey was killed in an accident. After nearly three years, he has yet to find a replacement for him. Along with his cronies at the track, he manages to buy a horse that's a bit of a sleeper. Their hopes of in big take a positive turn when Boots decides to train an eager young man, who turns out to be a runaway from a rich family, as a jockey. When gangsters tell Boots to throw the race in favor of another horse, he faces a major dilemma.

No idea if this movie is any good or not but happen to see it in the listings.

Thanks! I set my DVR to record it while I was at work. I don't think I've ever seen that one, or if I have, I don't remember it.

I watched it, thought it was great. Great story, well written. 'the racetrack is slow poison'

Loved it, "he'll take your eye out and use it as a grape" and other great lines were so well written and delivered, the action scenes were very high tech for the time. You gotta love the stew's and the "owners", something tells me that's what racing patnerships were supposed to be about.

Really good horse racing movie that I'd never seen before! I'm glad for the heads up, thanks again! Good hard boiled characters and dialogue. Especially enjoyed the "here's how to be a jockey" scenes. Got a kick out of them catching ducks from the infield lake. Anyone know where that mare and foal statue shown behind the opening credits is located?

Noticed the "kid" wears one of those slouchy hats. Anyone knows what they're called? Mickey Rooney used to wear them in horsey movies too, turned backwards, riding along with a straw between his teeth.

I'm not sure where the statute is (I haven't watched it yet but I did tape it) but it says on IMDB that it was filmed on the Iverson Ranch in Chatsworth. We need Rerun. :(
