I know he just claimed an expensive Mandella/Hughes horse (Quoted) for 40K, he was a bad beaten fav that day and Oneill put him on the turf and won a straight maiden nicely a week later. Too early to put that in the success column, but the way he won he was immediately worth a lot more than the 40K mandella lost him for. Not saying it is easy to beat anyone in the claiming game, 95% of horses are well sold. But do think it is possible to claim off him, cant say that for Baffert, Mullins, Mitchell, etc
I thought you might have had Quoted in mind. IMO, that's all he is worth, 40k. If Quoted would have behaved and ran straight when Mandella dropped him in for 40k, he would have taken down a 10k share of the purse too...So, they would have made 50k on the drop.
As it was, he was best over Halo's Law and Mr Bossy Pants.. and imo, neither of those horses are worth 40k either. That straight maiden he won was a good score for the new owners, but besting Horowitz and those other well bred runners of moderate ability, on a good turf course, in slow time, does not make him anything close to an allowance horse.
But then again, I might be wrong...
