Exactly. Though in my heart of hearts I do hope Zenyatta shows up (and destroys) in the Pacific Classic as Joel mentioned above.

Paseana ran in the Pacific Classic.

Azeri faced the males and she ran fifth. ho-hum Personal Ensign faced the boys, and what did she face two of them? Personal Ensign's greatest race was against fillies. I'm not sure why anyone thinks the males this year make some strong statement of either of their ability. The boys can't string two stakes wins together for the life of them. I would much rather see her race RA and Seattle Smooth (for you Sluggo) than to see her face the males.
What a filly/mare can do against males is a form of measuring their "greatness". Males are stonger/faster and a female who can defeat them in top competition speaks volumes. RA defeating Seattle Smooth wouldn't be as significant as defeating another classic winner in Summer Bird. The three-year old male crop isn't too shabby, despite all the colts currently on the sidelines.

Apad we'll have to agree to disagree. Summer Bird can still fit in nx2 allowance races. Look at last year's Belmont winner this past weekend. I haven't seen any colt this year that looks stronger than Zenyatta physically. She's a behemoth. RA is big but she's more feminine looking. Zenyatta is a work of art I could look at her all day.

Oh boy, know I'm going to get flamed here, but I do know the connections, and it's my impression they are doing what they think is best for the horse. What do they need to prove? They were thrilled to death with Zenyatta's accomplishments for last year. Anything this year is just icing on the cake before she goes to the breeding shed.

That's what I think. You can't look at her in the same light as Rachel because she is their really big pet. Rachel is about the $$ to her prior and current owners. Before she's ever run a race for Mr. Jackson he's talking about breeding a super horse. It's what she can give them, but the Mosses are going to want to take care of Zenyatta like a child and you know that's okay that's their right. They take care of their retirees at Old Friends and I remember Mrs. Moss nursing Sardula. It's just a different frame of mind and I guess people just can't wrap their head around the fact that she is their baby. She doesn't belong to the fans or the sport. She is never going to be sold so her value isn't important to them. I respect their choices for THEIR horse.

It amazes me the criticism that Jerry Moss is getting for "babying" Zenyatta.
If Jess Jackson, or most any other owner, owned Zenyatta she would have been retired LONG ago.
We should be grateful that Moss is such a great sportsman that we are able to continue to witness her greatness on the racetrack, instead of in the breeding shed..

That is so true. The Mosses were gracious enough to let her run another year for the good of the sport, and thus subjecting her to risk of injury or even death - how much more generous should they be; try to run her against the boys and possibly increase those risks. If I owned the mare, she would already be in foal to some outstanding stallion that her bloodlines matched with.

No flames from me! I agree, she's like a pet to the owners. If she gets HOY this year, that would be fantastic, but she's already a champion.
