Chris Katulak when he was at Hollywood Park aways back..Cant name anyone race, there were dozens where he called the wrong horse the entire race and then after calling the horse 10 times would come up with a different name for that horse, often that horse was not in the race either.

Harry maybe? Or I could be wrong.

I thinkthe worst in 45 years of going to racetracks was Frank Dwyer in New York. He spent more time describing where the field was (i.e, "at the quarter pole", "at the eigth pole", etc.) than he did calling the horses' names. Many times in at six furlong race he'd get around to mentioning the names of only three or four horses.

Someone mentioned Mike Battaglia - he ranks among the worst too.

My favorite of all time was Tony Bentley, who called the races at Delaware Park and the Fair Grounds, later at Canterbury Park. He disappeared for about 8 years when fired by Churchill Downs after they bought the Fair Grounds, then reappeared (great to hear him again!) last August to call the abbreviated Fair Grounds quarterhorse meet.

Generally speaking I tend to forget 'the worst" of anything and just move along with guys like Pablo, but after reading this thread it's apparent y'all have forgotten Bill Garr. It was common understanding that after listening to his calls at 5:45 on the radio each afternoon, you couldn't be positive about the race outcome until you checked the charts the next morning in the Herald Examiner.

Ahhhhh, good memories
And remember...Things work out best when you make the best of the way things work out.

Maybe not the WORST racecall ever, but perhaps the most embarrassing for the caller, was a race at Golden Gate Fields somewhere in the late 70's/Early 80's.
Todd Creed called the entire race with the page turned on his program.
For the entire race he called horses that were running two races later on the card. (Both races had the same number of runners)

After the horses had crossed the finish line, and were galloping back, someone gave him the news.
He then went back on mike saying "Returning to the winners circle, to nobodys surprise except my own is xxxxxxx"

This happened in the fledgling years of the Sam Spear replay show.....I remember calling up my track buddies telling
them to watch the replay show and get a good laugh......however Sam kindly put up a dubbed version of the race
with Todd calling the correct horses.
You can take the man away from the racetrack, but you can not take the racetrack out of the man.
