Worst race call ever??

Postby White Hat » Mon Jul 13, 2009 3:35 pm

I understand the reason he had to pinch hit in a tough spot and I know he's a great guy and he does a great job selling Hollywood Park but George O's call of the finale yesterday was by far the worst race call I ever heard. It did get me thinking of worst race calls or worst race callers in history but none really come to mind. Anyone want to refresh my memory of all time stinkers? This is not to badmouth George O who gets an A+ for effort. :D

That probably would rank pretty high on worst race call but it just goes to show how tough it is to call races :D But funniest race caller has to be Larry Lederman. He calls at Freehold now but when he was at Atlantic City years back, he was hilarious!!

The worst race caller I ever heard was Bill Garr, a wonderful guy but he was a butcher with his feature race radio calls.

I still love George O calling the races.

Does anyone have a link to the call where the announcer calls the brown ones faster than the gray ones and the car on the inside seems to be faster?

Eddie B's call of the second on Sunday was pretty bad. He gave one of his signature "getting stronger as the the race gets longer" lines for Kilderry, only to see him get nailed at the wire (because Tyler Baze fell asleep). I really enjoy listening to Vic and I hope he gets well soon.

I've made worse calls than George's. I thought he was a hero. Asked to call a 13 horse field. He could have begged off. But no. He stepped in and did his very best. I think that commands our respect. I know it has mine. As for Eddie B. How bout the class he showed? George woke him up at midnight. Told him I was in the ER and Eddie took about 2 seconds to say he'd be there to help. Remember after the long day at Hollywood he raced to Los Al and called another full card there. I'm forever grateful to both fine gentlemen.
