I can't speak for any others, but I'm very well aware of my criticisms posted here with regards to Aaron over the years. First, like you I've known Aaron for many many years, when he first started out in the business I was a customer of a tout by the name of Steve Martin (yes, I paid $$$ for picks waaay back then
). Every so often, Steve would throw some freebies out to his customers because he had met a new young sharp handicapper, and it was Aaron's picks that were provided for FREE as part of that product.
Second, I would say that I've never demeaned his handicapping abilities here in the Forum. If you or anybody else has any recollection of such, I'd be happy to review it and change my memory if necessary. If you think it's demeaning to mention that he blanked for the entire Hollywood Park summer meeting when somebody HIGHLIGHTS that he had ANOTHER WINNER, I just call that fair and balanced reporting.
What I have been VERY VERY critical of Aaron is when he came onto this forum several years ago and announced that he was reuniting with Roger Stein on the radio, and that they would have the best darn horsey radio show this side of the Mississippi. That would've been just fine if he left at that, a free commercial, but nooooooooo, like a cheap politician he found it necessary to slam his radio competition at the same time, at one point referring to one of the morning shows as "totally unlistenable"
. Besides the fact that those are friends of mine he was taking potshots at, and that they weren't here to defend themselves, I just don't like a Ford guy telling me Chevys suck, a Democrat telling me that Republicans suck, or that Coke tastes better than Pepsi. Let me be the judge dammit, and if your product is good enough the proof will be there, but it was totally unnecessary IMHO for him to post here, bragging about his radio show, while demeaning (your word!) the competition in the same paragraph.
As for his handicapping abilities.......he puts his pants on one leg at time so far as I can tell, I don't think he can walk on water, and I think he spends 60+ hours per week at it, so it wouldn't surprise me that he's fairly good at what he does, afterall it is his job.
Oh yes, I almost forgot......ex-regulars here Portlandmeadows and SuddenIce to name a couple, did some tracking of his picks on Roger's website and found some uhh discrepencies
with the claims of winners and profits on the radio, and the documention looked pretty solid as I recall. Kind of Mike Warrenish if you know what I mean, some of it really lacking in integrity and giving touts a bad name. And again, I don't think of that as being demeaning, but rather some factual reporting. If Aaron would ever like to apologize here for some of his behavior, it would help us all forget such trivial things I'm sure.
Hopefully I haven't done anything terrible in the eyes of the moderator by reciting historical events here, I've been warned not to call Nancy Pelosi a Schmuck, nor can I call poster VinceP a Schmuck in the new Forum, so getting back to the original post to Holly, I'm not sure where the line in the sand is here as to whether or not it's okay to call a TVG announcer a Schmuck, but I don't think it's right by the rules?
