Never pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel.
-- Mark Twain
I remember how he stayed home from the Breeder's Cup a couple of years ago to attend to his dying dog. And his last wish was to have, in lieu of flowers, donations sent to horse rescue and retirement groups. He thought of animals to the last, and was a good man.

I put together a few, a very few, of his highlights on the blog today.

Some 12 years ago, Bobby ran a horse in a low-level claiming race at Stockton. The horse was dropping from $10,000 down to $4,000. The horse won that day and my buddy decided to claim the horse thru his trainer. In the gelding's next start (first for my friend as his owner), the horse fractured a sesamoid and was put down.
The very next day, Frankel ran into my friend at Hollywood Park and offered his condolensces. I was there when that happened and my respect for Bobby grew that much more.
We lost a giant today. RIP Bobby.
That's a great shot. The dog looks to be pouting because Bobby is watching the horses working out
