"I believe in the Breeders' Cup," Moss added. "That's where you decide things, that's all. If the game changes from that, it's a huge shift. It would be like the Yankees taking back their bats and balls in August and saying, 'That's it. We're the best.' "
I know.. Jerry's a man who doesn't care.. Terrible guy. Selfish. I'm only guessing but I think he is behind the synthetic conspiracy.. to make all the horses in the world look inferior to Zenyatta.. so he could get an undeserving HOY award!
I love your logic.. Run in the Pacific Classic and show you care!
I know Rachel is going to lose the HOTY award, because you guys are acting so squirrely.. Those of us who favor Zenyatta always accepted we would probably not win the title. That all changed after the Classic. The whole world saw in that stretch run what many of us already knew... that Zenyatta was one for the ages.
I think Rachel is great.. the second best horse in America.. I've always respected her, in every single one of thoughts and each of my postings.. but the fans of hers.. what a bunch of babies. God, you guys are pitiful.
Pitiful? I'm pitiful because I prefer the merits of a filly who won the Kentucky Oaks by a record margin, who won the Preakness, something that hadn't been done in 94 years, a filly who won the Haskell in dominant fashion over five stakes winners, three of them graded, a filly who then defeated males in the Woodward, something that had never been done before.
Look, Zenyatta is a terrific racehorse and will certainly be remembered forever. She had a tremendous career and certainly left an indelible mark on the racing community. She did not, however, have the best year of any horse in this country. She collected victories in subpar races against subpar horses on a distinctly different surface than what the rest of the country runs on, while her counterpart on the east coast was going out of her division to win multiple times. Her connections knew after losing HOTY last year (when she was probably more deserving than the winner) that they needed to go out on a limb this year. They did, but little did they know there was going to be a horse that did what Rachel Alexandra did this year. That's why she'll be the Horse of the Year.
Here we are, the luckiest fans have been in ages. We get to see two magnificent horses vie for HOTY. When was the last time voting could potentially be this close?
All you can do is insult those who don't prefer the same horse as you. Too bad there's not pari-mutual wagering on the HOTY. Those of us who are top-tier handicappers could spot the sentimental (yet vulnerable) favorite.

Subpar races over subpar horses ... ???
Such as Life Is Sweet ... Beating her over and over and over easily ...
And all Life Is Sweet did was b l o w away the field against all of the other best female horses in the Breeder's Cup ... At least the ones who's owners had enough faith in them to send them to the Breeder's Cup ... For some reason Jackson didn't have enough faith in Rachel ... Wonder why ... and it was NOT because he thought she would get hurt on the surface ... It was because he knew darm well he would have to face Zenyatta ... and he greatly feared that Rachel would lose to her ...
Jackson knew there was a darn good chance that if he entered Rachel in the Breeder's in whichever race ... That Zenyatta would be entered in whichever race Rachel was ... And Jackson was smart enough to know he stood a darn good chance of losing and didn't want to take that chance ... It's THAT simple and it's exceedingly obvious to all of those who don't wear Rachel colored glasses.
You honestly believe he feared Rachel would get hurt? Really?
No ... He feared Rachel COULD lose ... And he wasn't willing to take that chance.
And cite Rachel's "busy" schedule going in ... And guess what ... Jackson knew ALL YEAR LONG when the Breeder's Cup was being held ... If he didn't fear facing Zenyatta ... He'd had adjusted her schedule to have her primed for the Cup ... He didn't because he feared facing Zenyatta ... Just a little obvious ...
Jackson feared Rachel would get injured? Anyone in their right mind knows darn well that wasn't true.
Jackson passes up the most lucrative payout and biggest race of the year? No one in their right mind would do that if they thought they could win it.
Jackson IS in his right mind ... He didn't think he could win it.
WHY? Because of the surface? NO ... Because of Zenyatta ... Because of the field.
Rachel ran on synthetics before and won ... NO problem. But she NEVER faced a field like that before.
And ... "Oh ... But that race at Keeneland was early in her career" ... Uhhhhh ... Precisely ... She's a MUCH better horse now and would likely be EVEN BETTER on the synthetics now with the maturity ...
Why not run on the synthetics? Why not run in the Breeder's Cup? Most lucrative race of the year? ... Uhhhh ... Obvious ... He feared he couldn't take Zenyatta and the rest of the field ... It was too good for her ...
As it turned out ... Jackson was right ... Rachel doesn't hit the board against that group ... Anyone here think she would have beaten Zenyatta, Gio Ponti or Twice Over on that day? Honestly?
Why is that? Because of the surface? No ... Because she was out of her league ... Jackson knew that ... Why don't you people?
Rachel is a GREAT 3 year old ... and she beat some weak grade 1 winning older males. Name 1 male of note she beat besides Summer Bird(Who was nowhere near the horse he is now when she beat him) and Mine That Bird(Who to me has shown he is essentially a flash in the pan) and she darn near lost to him ...
Who are these GREAT Grade 1 males that Rachel beat???
Zenyatta beat Gio Ponti, Colonel John, Summer Bird(At his peak), Einstein and Rip Van Winkle. All in the same race at that!! She had to beat 5 horses of a calibur above any that Rachel has EVER faced ... and ALL in the SAME race!! Would seem to be a VERY difficult task ... But she made it look easy.
Can someone hit me with a list of the top 5 horses that Rachel beat this year that will match or surpass Zenyatta's list?
Life Is Sweet is a hell of a lot better than you people want to think ... She blew the field against all of the other females in this country that had owners with confidence enough to send them to face the best. Including every East Coaster's darling Careless Jewel ... Boy SHE looked GREAT out there didn't she?
Maybe Rachel's competition just may be a little suspect now too? When Zenyatta's also ran whips the butt of the East Coasts little darling ... Careless Jewel.
I will however say ... Careless Jewel is a pretty horse and I sincerely felt for her with the way she finished that race,
Just saying kids ... That maybe just maybe Zenyatta has faced better competition that you'd like to think ... and maybe ... just maybe ... Zenyatta did on Breeder's Cup day what Rachel couldn't have and Jackson knew it ...
Does Jess Jackson and Steve Asmussen get the trophy if Rachel wins? Just because I buy a Nissan GT-R, does that mean I get the Motor Trend Car of the Year Trophy for 2009? Just because you BUY the best, does not make you the best after you make decisions.
The wine sucks Jess, and so does the idea your assets are up against Zenyatta for horse of the year. Rachel was the best filly I have ever seen, but this year someone is much more deserving. These same fool's didnt give Z a chance in the classic, I am sick of the whining.. get over it.
I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany...
