http://www.drf.com/news/article/105410. ... leadership is what makes or breaks industries.......what is killing ca racing is horse population.....not whether it is bred here or somewhere else.....we have lost all of our older horses to other better paying purse tracks ...that is why we are stuck with short fields we continue to write and fund races that attract fewer horses ......the fair races used to be a haven for older ,durable horses now 80% of the races are for 3-4 year olds ....do I agree that purses should be the incentive yes but you have to keep them here after there 3-4 year old campaigns...and structure purse levels to obtain such a result....and i don't have stats to back this up but I would guess a full field of maiden claimers still attracts more action than a 6 horse field of starter allowances...give the money to the races that garner the most action ....ya that should have been the bill speeding through the legislature.......right harris farms.....also ask florida how their breeding program is working out....last i checked we were giving bonuses already to ca breds....but i could be wrong ...like 36,000 for 2year olds running 2 furlongs
