Was watching the talking heads at ATR and they said something that got me to wondering - what if Ventura had gone in the Mile against Goldikova? You'd have arguably 2 of the best female milers in the world going against each other. Ventura has beaten the boys at 1M including some currently in the race while losing a nose to Gio, also in the race. Arguably it would have been her toughest to date, but isn't that what the BC is about (Mr Jackson's thoughts aside). Nothing disparaging to her connections opting for the Sprint - I know she's the defending champ. But that matchup could have been the race of the year here in the Colonies. You wouldn't have the hyperbole of older vs. younger (not much anyways), dirt vs plastic, homey vs frequent traveler etc. Just two ladies doing what they excel at - a mile on turf against a salty field of men. Would have been very interesting. And one I'd even schlep to the track to see.
FWIW, the ATR heads are not too keen on Goldie here - they believe her race will be on the first turn from post 11 ('coffin draw'). If Oliver doesn't get the right hole on the turn and get her covered up, he'll have to use her like he did in the La Foret where she was headed. And at 8-5 they believe its a tough gamble. They may be right.
