It's kind of a shame ABC isn't showing the Classic. Not everyone has ESPN, but even with no television subscription, ABC is universal. It would have been great exposure for this race; not that ESPN isn't, but the Classic and Zenyatta's 'swan song', would have been seen by more people on ABC.
I presume ABC is showing the races in between football games. I wonder if they ever thought about interrupting football briefly to show the Classic. Again, it would have been great exposure, since so many people watch football on Saturdays.
Just surfing some numbers (I like numbers), and ESPN has penetration in something just shy of 99,000,000 households (I think that's with a TV, BWTFDIK). Astonishingly that's only 87%. Some 13% don't get it - who are these people? I confess I honestly don't watch them much as the primary sports I follow are hockey and racing. And I get the alphabet soup too - ESPNU, ESPN2 NEWS, Classic, ESPNToGo. But if you follow any sports other than the aforementioned, don't you need ESPN more than say, toothpaste?
Though being an elitist, I do watch the Kanadian version of ESPN, TSN feverishly!
Gentlemen, there's no fighting here. This is the WAR ROOM!

I know a few people who don't subscribe to cable or satellite. Subscription TV can be pretty expensive. A lot of people probably can't afford it or don't think it's worth the money. I have satellite with something like 120 channels and I watch less than 10 of these, and only 3 or 4 on a regular basis, with my "default" stations being HRTV or TVG.
