Leave Frank out of this. He is on a mission to save his homeland.
These races are a good idea. Santa Anita is putting a pile of money on the table to encourage BC-quality horses to come out early and prep for the big day. It will make things interesting. However, Sadler, O'Neill, and especially Baffert won't like it.
Hope they draw over 10,000 attendance that day. Even though big on-track attendance doesn't appear to be that important anymore, that would seem to be a good day to go to the races.
Fan forums are enjoyable. They are not life or death.
Meanwhile, earlier that Saturday at Belmont Park:
Kelso Handicap (Gr. II) $400,000 3&UP 1 Mile (Dirt)
Vosburgh Invitational (Gr. I) $400,000 3&UP 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Flower Bowl Invitational (Gr. I) $600,000 F&M 3&UP 1 1/4 M (Turf)
Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational (Gr. I) $600,000 3&UP 1 1/2 (Turf)
Beldame Invitational (Gr. I) $400,000 F&M 3&UP 1 1/8 M (Dirt)
Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational (Gr. I) $1,000,000 3&UP 1 1/4 (Dirt)
And the following Saturday (October 5) at Belmont Park:
Jamaica (Gr. I) $500,000 3YO 1 1/8 (Turf)
Frizette (Gr. I) $500,000 F2YO 1 Mile (Dirt)
Foxwoods Champagne (Gr. I) $500,000 2YO 1 Mile (Dirt)
While Mucho Macho Man will race in the Awesome Again, I think it's more likely otherwise we'll get horses shipping east to run for the MUCH bigger purses at Belmont Park otherwise.

the downs at albuqurque has the best food and clubhouse in the nation, or did, i havent been there in a long time. little crummy track but terrific club house. blue ribbon downs use to have a real nice club house but they closed it years ago. it was so good that lots of people would come just for dinner with absolutely no interest in horse racing
That's a good point. All the the SA races listed and all the Bel races except the Jamaica are "win and you're in" BC races. But if the horse has a legitimate shot why not go for the big money and a BC invitation at the same time? Still, the SA races should attract some nice horses, and this includes the Santa Anita Sprint on October 5 which is also a win and you're in. It's all good.
I quite liked the Smoked Salmon flatbread at the Blue Moon grill on the snooty (Clubhouse) side of Del Mar...not that I'll ever be back over there...
And, getting back on topic, I think SA is going to get a bunch of 2nd tier horses that day. And, that's a crying shame too...whoever scheduled this mess should be ashamed of themselves...
I always enjoy this day. Will SA offer these races from Belmont or will I have to bet 4 mdn claimers from the Fresno fair and the card from Los Al due to the greedy CHRB and Horseman mandate of betting they're choices?
The only two races SA won't take are the DD from Belmont, which is a stupidass outdated ridiculous old school rule.
Btw Fredo, the next time you knock ANY of Vince's beloved California Fairs, will be the last time.
Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
