Wow, Nobody does it Better than Del Mar! Big Props to the Del Mar Mngt & Staff for another Beautiful Opening Day. It seems every year this time you out do yourselves. For anyone who thinks Horse-Racing is dead & a sport just for old fuddie-duddies, then you haven't been to Del Mar. Before I continue on, let me give a hearty "Thanks" to Del Mar Mngt for keeping this Fan-Forum Message Board open even though several non-conformists have tried their best to give reason to shut it down. Ok lets go to the Racing Action.
Geez, Right off the bat, in the very 1st Race, Every Wise-Guy Handicapper & So-Called Experts, including Me, Defy Logic & let one of the Top 5 Winning Jockeys in the whole USA & a former Del Mar Jockey Meet Winner, Yeah Joel Rosario, Win the 1st race @ $5-1 on #1-Casa De Cambio (which ironically means in Spanish, House of Cash/Money Exchange, at Freakin Del Mar which is a Spanish Design House that Bing Built) while riding for last years Meet Winning Trainer Peter Miller. I mean speaking for myself, I should turn in my Official Handicapper Badge & Gun & immediately Retire. But of course I will never Retire, like the NRA says, "You will have to take my DRF from My Cold Dead Hands"! Lol
But Wait, It gets Worse. In the 2nd Race, Who do you think Wins @ $4-1, Yeah You Guessed it, Rosario & Miller team up again to Sweep the DD & Win the 2nd with #5-Keep Movin. I mean, Seriously, Is this supposed to be "Rocket Science"? I mean a Simple Win parlay & a Andrew Jackson or Ben Franklin on the DD & I'm Good for the Day. Needless to say, My dreams of hitting the Opening Day P5 was ruined. Ok Lesson Learned, Until the Day I Die, Never leave Joel Rosario out of a Sequential Race Bet again!
Ok on to a few Positives for the Day. Yes it was good to see Jockey Joel Rosario back @ Del Mar & picking up where he left off. Everyone should remember his exploits in SoCal before he shipped East in search of Bigger Mounts. Yeah Joel hasn't lost a thing since he left SoCal, & it bears repeating for people like myself. Leave Joel Rosario Out of Your Wagers at Your Own Peril. Please note that Rosario Won 3 of the P5 races with only one of them going off the Fav. Imho, Joel Rosario is the Best Jockey to come out of Latin America since Laffit Pincay. There I said it & I'm not backing away from the Statement. No Jockey in the Country is riding more "Consistently" than Joel Rosario at this time or even in the last Year, its just he now is getting more attention since winning the Ky-Derby & Dubai World Cup.
Next, Heres a nod to Trainer Carla Gaines, She Wins the 1st-Div of the Oceanside with #2-Gervinho & Yes Carla is not only a beautiful lady but a Damn Good Horse-Trainer as well who fits with the big dogs & She always seems to have her horses in the right spots.
Back to Jockeys, Heres to Mike Mitchell's Son-n-Law Julian Leparoux, Young Frenchy takes his share of criticism for his "Pat Wait All Day" type of Rides, but on the Grass The Frenchman "Gets the Job Done" as He Wins the 2nd-Div of the Oceanside @ $7-1 with #10-Rising Legend. Also Note The Frenchman narrowly gets beat in the 1st-Div of the Oceanside as he gets 2nd @ $14-1 with Greely Awseome. I say when The Frenchman has a decent mount on the Grass then that deserves a big Oui-Oui for handicappers.
Ok, Heres another Hearty Thanks to Del Mar Mngt & just remember Your Opening Day is the Best in All of T-Bred Racing, because of all the Hard-Work that You Do behind the Scenes. Trust Me when I say, In this Day & Age that is not Taken for Granted.
Viva Del Mar, The House That Bing Built!
