1985 Breeders' Cup

Postby Risen Star » Tue Oct 27, 2009 5:40 pm

Wow, I just saw an extraordinary and also a precarious Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Storm Cat was in post 13. At the break Groovy stumbled badly, then during the race, another horse, who's name now escapes me, (something "courage") stumbled very badly and it's amazing his rider was able to stay on. It looked like Storm Cat had it won, then Tasso collared him at the wire.

I'd never seen Storm Cat as a racer and he almost won it.

My programing says the 1989 BC, but it's 1985.

Like last night- they showed the 1987 from Hollywood Park, but the menu guide said 1991.
( boy the TV coverage has come A LONG WAY.) Gary Stevens was hurt that year & he did the analysis-bet he wishes he still had full head of hair.
If wishes were horses then beggars would ride-
& If dirt were dollars we'd all be in the black

Back when Florida breds still seemed to surprise the Kentucky hardboots. Fred Hooper was a spring chicken.

Life's Magic is one of my all time favorite race mares. She always tried her best.

Pebbles reminded me of Goldikova. And it was really gratifying to see Proud Truth win the Classic for John Veitch. He seems like a really good guy, and maybe it made up a little for those gut-wrenching defeats Alydar experienced in the Triple Crown. At any rate, I was happy to see his horse win a really big one.

Kind of sad to see all those old names like Fred Hooper, Pete Axthelm, Frances Genter, Gene Klein, John Galbreath.... Didn't I see a Jack Kent Cooke horse too?

I loved John Nerud's speech about come see our sport. No one does that stuff anymore. Where are the leaders of this sport?
