I guess one way to describe the facility is; it gives the appearance of an old sports book (since most everyone sits under the grandstand and watches all of the TV's while betting on all available tracks) with a race track attached. Seems like only a few hundred people are actually out watching the races--NOT watching a TV.
It's rundown--not to be unexpected as the place is closing at the end of the year.
Someone had mentioned the smell in the restrooms--very accurate description.
It was a long drive from San Diego to see the place (and a much longer drive home during rushhour--I forgot how much I really hate the 405).
Through a previous arrangement, I got a chance to go upstairs and watch a race from the announcer's booth. Pretty safe to say that will never happen again. (Thanks, Vic)
I did pick 4 winners, but since I don't bet very much, it wasn't a really profitable day. I left with more than I started with, so I guess that's all you can ask for.
Finally; would I go back? Maybe.
Curious, ever been to Ferndale?
It's a "short" 12 hour drive from PB.
Come on up!
You'll love the joint.
