Isn't it time for some Melbourne Cup news on here? Would love to hear some hot tips, cold tips, wagering strategies, ogling strategies, Cox Plate entries, whatever, for the race that stops a nation. Remember, no matter how late you stay up to wager on Australian racing, its still over before major league baseball!
To get ready, Seigy should give us long strings of stats, Southieboy needs to find out what channel in Perth will be showing the race, LIRM should give us a physical recap of the horseflesh, Risen Star should tell us who will win, and BobB should tell us why.
I can start it off by mentioning past winners Efficient and Viewed have both won recent preps: here is a video of the Caulfield Cup on Oct 17th:
Anyone planning on being there can check out this useful budgeting tool, the official Spring Carnival Brouchure (3MB):
Thanks for posting. The Melbourne Cup is one of my favorite international races to watch and it's probably the greatest long distance race in the world. I'm really looking forward to watching the "race that stops a nation" on the first Tuesday in November.
I hope the Melbourne Cup will be televised at night again (U.S. time) like last year. Both HRTV and TVG covered it.
Most excellent, and to add to that list, doesn't theIman have some personal railbird friends down there? They gotta know sumthin, no?
And remember...Things work out best when you make the best of the way things work out.
Viewed looked awfully powerful in the Caulfield.
I've posted the videos of the 2008 and 2007 Melbourne Cups, won by Viewed and Efficient respectively. I'd love to see Profound Beauty in the mix as well, if she's still entered.

Profound Beauty is out: http://www.theage.com.au/news/sport/horse-racing/profound-beauty-a-noshow-for-cup/2009/10/07/1254701061581.html
Also, 2008 Cox Plate winner Maldivian has been retired following a tendon injury, and Takeout Target's half-brother Predatory Pricer is out for the season: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/racing/2977339/Pricer-sidelined-Maldivian-retired
I'm a big Viewed fan, but am intrigued by the Kiwi mare Daffodil who finished fourth in the Caulfield Cup this past weekend. She's my sentimental Melbourne Cup pick.
That's a disappointment that Profound Beauty is out, but at least she'll return to training next year. I also extend best wishes to the mare with the irregular heart beat. Hope she'll be OK, and if they have to retire her, that's fine.
Looks like Viewed and Efficient will share high weight in the Melbourne Cup of 58 kilograms. I'll have to figure out what that translates to in pounds. I'm still not that familiar with the metric system.

Rock Kingdom is now a supplemental entry for (Friday Night's) Cox Plate:

HRTV covers racing "Down Under", so will they be covering the Cox Plate? Is it Friday night our time or Australian Time?
