New Pope will Help Horse Racing

Postby Vince P » Thu Mar 14, 2013 7:06 am

As horse racing fans, you gotta love the new Pope and I think he will be great for the game.

Before being cynical, follow me here.

Fr. Jorge Bergoglio (Italian, though born and raised in Argentina) took the name Francis - after the great St. Francis of Assisi for his Pope name.

And as many of youz know St. Francis ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_of_Assisi) was a HUGE animal lover, especially thoroughbreds.

"As autumn arrives, people in various places may notice something odd.

A procession of animals, everything from dogs and cats to hamsters and even horses, is led to churches for a special ceremony called the Blessing of Pets.

This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures."

I also believe he is a big fan of that crazy race in Sienna too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palio_di_Siena

And from what I've read, the new Pope is a simple man who loves helping the poor out, per his past performances.

All in all, Francis was a great choice for Pope and horse racing will be one of the beneficiaries.

Am I making any sense?

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Calidoscopio (ARG) was absolutely fabulous in last year's Breeders' Cup Marathon and he did it without help from the Pope. This year he will be beyond fabulous, I guarantee.
