Question regarding mutual pools

Postby Fredo » Tue Mar 12, 2013 12:35 pm

I saw something very odd happen at La. Downs this weekend. The winner was 8-1. 2nd place was a heater between the #4 at 48-1 and the #10 @ 5/2. The 4th place horse was 11-1.
You can tell by the link that I posted that something wild went on betting wise after looking at the payoffs for the super. The 7-10-4-1 super payed 3 times more than the 7-4-10-1.Did someone bet a lot on the 7-4-10-1 ticket to make it pay 3 times less? Last question, do they still chop the prices in half in a dead heat? I'm not saying fix, shenanigans or anything like that.I don't need Vic to come out of his self imposed exile and tell me I'm nuts. I've never seen anything like this before.

Thank you for your detailed answer. Do you like to be called JJ or just Jimi? I totally get the first paragraph of your response. The rest is all Greek to me. I don't understand how a show pool would affect a heater for 3 horses. In your opinion what would have happened in that La. Downs race if no one had the 48-1 shot for 2nd in all available wagering supers ?

Reread your detailed answer. The 7-10-4-1 would take the whole pool.Got it.
