These cars cost about 100k and I made a back-of-the-envelope presentation on why they are not cost-effective. I knew she wasn't going to buy a Corolla, but I suggested a Cadillac CTS, which is a cool car at about half the price. She bought the S and loves it. She's a big girl and knows the costs and can afford them and points with pride that Mercedes has a deal with the Clippers for valet parking at the Staples Center for Mercedes owners. (It's a status thing, but she will never use that perk because she wouldn't pay even $10 for tickets to a basketball game.) What the hell, it's her deal and she knows what she's doing. I wouldn't make that choice but she's happy. Good for her.
Huh? I guess my question would be, would she buy that car for 200,000? knowing that someone before her just bought the exact same car on the same lot as her for 100,000?

Great post Mike.
Petemo, what makes you think it is the same car? Or that the day before she could've bought it for $100k?
Have you been to a horse auction? When Baffert raises his hand does that horse now look the same as the others?
Petemo, you seem to understand partnerships and how easy it is for them to "double prices the next day" and sell, sell sell. So, my question is, if it is this easy and legal and lucrative, why aren't you doing it?
Let's say West Point is bidding on a horse and it stops at $25k... then at the last minute Baffert jumps in and they go head and head all the way to $500,000 before Baffert wins. Does that make the horse worth $500,000? Seems to me there were only two people who valued the horse over $25,000.
The final price at auctions are not an accurate measurement of a horses worth. Their worth is what the next person will pay for it. Not what the previous person paid. I fully understand markups, and partnerships and my choices for buying a thoroughbred. And I choose these partnership groups sometimes. So do 1000's of others. Do you think all of them are "blinded"? It may not be right for you, but it is for many others.

Joey if you had such knowledge of horse racing you would not be involved with LRF period.

Is that because they like to "scalp" their clients?

Ha. That may be true Degenerationx. But, I'm not alone. There are many, and I mean many, regular, full time So Cal horse owners who also own shares in LRF horses. They can buy horses on their own, "with no markup" as you say, and yet they choose LRF horses.
Fredo is my fav person on here.

Sharp post. Now that Stain has retired, Fredo might just be #1..though White Head is making it a very close race..

Mr Joey from the filibuster tribe. You do not need to take on all comers from the hecklers and naysayers in the forum. Many moons ago I was tarred and feathered, ridiculed and called a toothless hillbilly just because I thought Shackleford deserved HOY. I admire your passion but I promise you a few of the mooks in here have a right to be bitter. You and your tribe seem to be doing well and enjoy the racing game. Btw will Let It Ride Feather accept a 1965 Dick Butkus rookie card as a payment on the next colt offering ? Godspeed, FredofromChicago

Wow, the personal attacks in this string are over the top. As someone who has watched the LRF people for years, I want to say that the first thing one notices--or ought to notice--about them is that absolutely nobody has more fun at a racetrack than they and their investors do. CA racetracks have sadly become sleepy places over the years, but when the LRF people are out there, everything changes for the better. Win or lose, everything perks up, and the racetrack once again seems like a place where people can go to have a great time. The personal attacks on Billy Koch? I find them hard to understand. Racing needs more people who love the game as much as he does and have his knack for making the game fun for the people around him. Results? Owning horses can be nasty business. Everyone knows that. There will be failures. And if you're extraordinarily fortunate, there will be a Singletary. Coming on this forum and calling LRF supporters liars? With zero evidence? Well, the motives in that particular case ought to be transparent to anyone who follows this forum--transparent, green-eyed, and monstrous.

So where is the horse corporate mouthpiece??? Why don't you buy advertising space somewhere else with your 12 measley posts???? http://www.littleredfeather.com/media/p ... letter.pdf
