Just for the record, it was 1:08.4, he was giving 6 pounds to the winner, and he ran 2nd with a broken leg.
The 109 4 was a typo(makes the final time that much more pathetic). Hrses frequently hurt themselves when they are overdoing it(trying harderthan ability dictates). My boys in the Pletcher barn never steered me wrong. They said this was a very nice, but nothing super special horse since day 1.He ran like that in each and every race.

I was never sure about where all the hype was coming from on this horse off his first 3 races. But I think he stepped up his game considerably in the FOY. Will say if you go by who these trainers tell you their best ones are XXX in the summer of their 2 year old year you will be shocked at how wrong they are year after year. Oneill did not have have Ill Have Another in his top 10 2 year olds in the summer, Pletchers top 2 year olds allegedly were ArchWarrior and Darwin, where are they now?

The best horses most often develop into the best ones, the ones who start guns ablazing usually don't last long and they rarely improve along the way and they sure don't translate often to classic distance types. It is possible this horse was just starting to improve. He gave weight in the FOY and the jockey did not do him any favors. If the race was another 1/16th of a mile this horse could have broken down, he was wrong up front 30 minutes after the race. He ran his best race and was courageous. Was he a freak? No, but hard to say where his career would have taken him.

Just curious, how often do horses who are overhyped in February and the first few weeks of March win the Derby? Assuming they make it to the starting gate.

If Violence was so very bad, then it figures Orb ain't much either. According to Trackmaster, the par for that 3YO race was 1:44. That was about what most of the other horses ran.
The track record is 1:41.81 (set this year), Orb ran a 1:42.24.

So how good is Itsmyluckyday comparatively as he set the track record for the distance?

When push comes to shove who really cares about final times? Id quit ripping Orb if I were you as you will look foolish in a few months for doing so.

Looking Foolish is not a worry for me. 8-)
Not ripping Orb, but 1/2 the Forum seems to think Violence was a dog and Orb beat him by a longneck. This was Orb's first graded race.

As for Oxbow,Im prone to give a mulligan to a speed dirt horse who travels cross country and runs on a synthetic he is not used to at all.I think the Coach has been salivating for a return trip to glory.People starting to forget how good he was with babies and 3s a decade ago.Wouldnt it be a great story if he kicked off rockin Johnny Court and put Winning Color's rider on Oxbow(cant remember his name).Old guys rule!!
I predicted this 3 months ago......just couldnt predict it 24 hourse ago.Congrats Gary, you are the best riders of 3 year-olds in our generation.
