Today at Santa Anita, there were two tickets alive to be single winners of the P-6 pool. Maybe it was one bettor, maybe two different people. Did the tickets single the 4-5 favorite in the nightcap? No. How about second choice at 5-2 or third choice at 9-2? No, while these three horses ran 1-2-3 our bettor(s) picked a 30-1 shot and a 65-1 shot. Now that's eiher cajones or stupidity. I leave it for others to decide. One thing is sure: whoever had the tickets that were alive will be mumbling to him or herself for a long while now.
Another oddity is that the highest price was $11.20 and $9.80. The pick 5 only paid a grand. Place pick all paid $29.
Carryover. Strange indeed.
I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany...
here is my guess..I saw and imediately thought it was mistake ...then I said maybe the 2 horses alive were paying 4 and they posted them as if they were six instead of four....the 2 alive were the longest shot and maybe the third longest.....but the fact that the pool was one of the smallest I can remember for socal...maybe just maybe some pick six tickets never made it into the pool,so far no news on that.....but I agree it defies imagination, that the 4-5 shot and others were not covered ,like you said no big payer and the pick 5 paid 1000,and the pick all 29,and five of six paid 200 and change ...REALLY STRANGE
I just updated my Facebook status regarding this. You look at the payouts, and you think "wow, I could have had that pot all to myself." Meanwhile, I'm too busy chasing the Woodbine P6 that's been carrying for a week and a half.

Could be the answer. I'd love to know in the history of the P-6, how many quick picks have actually hit all 6, let alone be the lone winner.
In So-Cal racing, Del Mar has the highest average P-6 pools by many lengths. With the Fairplex Fair the following meet, and then a quick Oak Tree, it does magnify how far the drop in P-6 betting is lately. Only the Breeders Cup can save us now....or a multiple day carryover.
