That was vintage Gary Stevens in San Marcos

That was the master of pace that from way back when. The judgment and feel for how much horse he had left and how much farther he had to go. Just enjoyable to watch.

Totally agree. With the winner's lead at a plus 48 half and 1:12.1 3/4 you just knew those other horses were in trouble. The ride Slim Shady needed to win the race. Good piece of work by Stevens.

Stevens sat there and the let the horse do what he does best....wing on the front end. Not sure this garners him any kudos.

Now contrast that to Animal Kingdom getting sent up early along the rail in a 22.1 quarter. Now that is a ride that might have folks on different sides of the fence

Define "that kind of race calling" without using adjectives.

Yes they were good times.

I don't play by other people's rules. I'm over 70, I don't remember Barney, or what I had for lunch yesterday. Smile more, be happy!

I am so mad at myself for not taking Slim Shadey on top...going into the race, I was on the fence between him and Interaction, but leaning towards Interaction because I wasn't sure Slim could get the lead from the 13 hole.

Then I saw Slim on the track. He looked awesome...but I still couldn't bring myself to switch...

figuratively 2 seconds after the gates opened, I tossed my tickets...it was over...

Reminded of One Dreamer in the Distaff when Stevens put everyone to sleep out front on the old grey mare and held 'um all off at 45-1. Cost me dearly but a great ride.
