Points to get in the Derby ?

What is your estimate/ballpark number of points it will take to get in the Derby ? Say #20.
Thanks

Way, way, way, way, way, way, way too high imo, Kermit.

I'm thinking 77 points will make the cut.

I also think there be VERY LITTLE difference when comparing the points to the former qualifier of earnings in graded races.

I.e, I think this year's #20 point spot's earnings will be very similar to the #20 spot in earnings last year.

I'm thinking even lower than 70. There's fifteen 50 and 100 point races. I figure that winners of all of them will make it and there won't be many that win more than one qualifying race.

So, five more spots to fill at under 50 points. I'm guessing #20 will get in with 35 or 40 points.

The same horse could win a 50 or two and a 100, and that can happen more than once. Just like money, there's always been a couple of horses that soaked-up way more than they needed to get in, it will be that way with points also. Leaves less for the dogs to fight over.

What happens when we have a dead-heat in a 100 point race? They each get 100?

DEAD-HEATS – In the event of a dead-heat (tie) in a “Road to the Kentucky Derby” race, those horses will divide equally the points they would have received jointly had one beaten the other.

I'm probably too high on the low end, but who wants to be sweating it out running 2 weeks before the Derby?

Old way vs New way - sprint races and 2YO races mean little. Has to make a difference!

If you don't have more than 20 points after the Blue Grass and Arkansas Derby, you can probably kiss any chance of run in the Derby goodbye. Depending on who gets left out and/or sidetracked, could make for interesting Preakness.
