I wouldn't presume to take him on in that topic!
Thank God for the Federal Reserve. You can't have big government or big wars without them.

It's a genius marketing gimmick. Not saying it's good for the Players but this is the most talked about wager in horse racing by a mile.[/quote]

CA needs to do a dime P6. The sophisticated deep pocket bettors have moved on to Hong Kong or the gaming tables at Macau. The P6 is dead in America other than at Gulfstream Park. Nothing much going on in NY. CA P6 pathetic when you compare it to a few years ago. Racing needs to embrace new strategies. And the Rainbow 6 is a huge success.

The Rainbow 6 reminds me of the "Quick fix" California decided on when they increased the takeout to help owners fill fields. It was a temporary but extremely bad solution to a long term major problem.

As soon as bettors in California "realized" what was happening - when they knew it or not - handle dropped and field sizes went down.

Same with the Gulfstream P6. When the majority of [losing] bettors sense what has happened, the thrill will be over and overall handle will be down unless another "gimmick" is born.

You are absolutely right. As much as I would like to believe that racing attracts bright sophisticated gamblers it also attracts people who are essentially clueless as to the mathematical realities of betting. So in a free market these bettors should be able to bet their money in whatever way they want to give them the gratification that they seek. And the tracks should also be free to pursue these kinds of players offering whatever fantasy bets that best fill these needs.

My problem is when people want to change the "player" bets into "fantasy" bets. The California P-6 is not in need of a fix. It is a victim of the proliferation of other "player" bets such as the P-5 and P-4. Horizontal bets keep too much money on the sidelines that would normally be available for the P-6. IMO the P-6 should be preserved because it is the one bet that gets the "players" excited. It is a bet where mathematical sense combines with fantasy. Also a player who spends hours handicapping the P-6 will more than likely bet many of the individual races that are included in the P-6. .

They are panicking over the current state of the Ca. P6.
