If you can calculate pennies and pay for .10cent supers you can pay each penny on my win bet. Pay out on the decimal system as they do in aus and England.
Track take should be no more than exactly 8% of the win pool. Forget about the .10 cent base! a bad bet is a bad bet! I don't care how small the bet base is. 19% including break is confiscatory on win bets. You can guess where I stand on the gimmick bets Get Rid of them! Tracks, horseman, and breeders live within your means like the gamblers have to.
There is no reason other than greed that field size shouldn't average 10. Foresight in the business model and a little less paying off breeders and owners with 200.000 4 horse fields. Technology has made it possible to take wagers from all over the world in multiple currencies and convert them in breakneck speed don't tell me you can't pay me to the penny. In fact if you calculate the amount wagered to win at say Gulfstream or Santa ,on each horse in a race the sum will not add up to the total money bet in the win pool for that race as it should. Try it and see for yourself.
variances can hide millions in fraud! remember Breeders Cup 2002.Transparency is a must! These tracks have the capabilities technologically to make this game perceived to be on the up and up but until customers demand accountability tracks, breeders and horsemen will go on with the status quo and so will the mugs that feed their pockets.
Jimi I used to think like you at one time and then I was exposed to reality. The takeout can't be blended at 14%,15% but probably could at 17% or 18%. As far as breakage goes I agree with you on that but the Horsemen don't want to give up the 6 plus million that they make from it even though they would make more from higher handle because of penny breakeage.
