The bonus, when thoroughly analyzed, wasn't going to help much. It wasn't going to bring in new players and it wasn't going to change where people placed their bets.

Lower the take-out rates and handle will go up. People who play the P-6 also play the other bets that hand the take increased by 2 or 3%. As a result they have less money to bet.The chickens are coming home to roost.

The Bonus wasn't implemented correctly. For handle to go up they needed to offer it on XpressBet, have a free P6 contest, and do all of the marketing that they did on the first P5.

The chickens are coming home to roost on this bet.

imo the better the races the better the handle. nothing else means much. the average joe(90%) who go's to the races has no idea about
all that, any bet that people can get rich on is good.

In California when field size goes from 7 to 9 or more handle goes up more than 30%. Quality is good but 4-5-6 horse fields are bad for everyone. You're right about most people not knowing much about the details.

better races are both better quality and larger fields. if you asked everybody who walks into santa anita what the take out was on bets it would be hard to find anyone who knows.
at gulfstream if you asked them about the dime p6 they would all say what the heck thats worth taking a shot at. they sure wouldnt say oh the bet is set up for some big player so im not going to play it.

Agree although a lot more people are aware especially since the low takeout P5 was put in. On HRTV and TVG they usually will mention the 14% takeout when they refer to the bet and they always comment about how it pays more than you would think that it would pay.

I agree. But you don't have to know what the takeout is to experience the affect. The big sophisticated player doesn't touch the Gulfstream P-6. The small player is drawn in with the dime minimum and a big carryover. Unfortunately the bet is nothing more than a money sucking 52% takeout bet. There is very little churn and the players lose their money at a far faster rate. Many players are small bettors because they don't have a big bankroll to bet. So having their money taken away at a faster pace will leave them at home not betting due to a lack of funds. After awhile even the dumbest players will get the hint that they are better off making different bets. That can't be good for business in the long run.

When you add in Carryovers the upcoming Hollywood Park meet averaged 220k in daily handle. This P6 would at least double that in my opinion.

by doing this I think all the serious money that is going to the P6 right now will go to the P4/P5 pools. Another byproduct is that there are too many multi-race exotic bets that overlap one another. Take a Thursday CA card for example - the pick 5, both pick 4's and the pick 6 all overlap one another.

I don't get the logic. If the P5 handles x and the P4 handles y then the pick 6 should handle more than either one right? There are bigger fields in the P6 sequence and the payouts should be huge.
