Sign disqualified from Pocahontas win after positive test

Postby Southieboy » Mon Feb 04, 2013 2:10 pm

Sign, the promising 3-year-old filly bred and owned by Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider, has been disqualified from her victory in the Grade 2 Pocahontas Stakes on Oct. 28 at Churchill Downs after testing positive for the banned medication methocarbomol, a Class C drug found in a commonly used muscle relaxant known as Robaxin.

A ruling was posted Monday on the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission website mandating the purse redistributed accordingly. Trainer Al Stall Jr. was fined $250.

An Al Stall horse with a positive? I guess there is a first time for everyone.

Thank God for the Federal Reserve. You can't have big government or big wars without them.

Methocarbomol is allowed 24 hours out. Many trainer's pre-race meds are bute and robaxin. It sounds like this was just a timing snafu. It happens. It's stupid to get popped this way, but it does happen.
$250 may not seem like much but remember he lost the purse, too. As did the owner, who is not going to be thrilled, and the jock. That is the big punishment.
