Tampa Derby next for Verrazano. Interesting race choice.

An unconventional race to point to (although Super Saver was 3rd in this race before his Derby), but it's 50 points for the winner and he needs to get some points ASAP.

Only horse that has won the Derby out of this race is Street Sense.

great points Bearsy.

2 out of the last 6 KD winners were in this race which is now worth 50 points.
maybe once unconventional but sounds very conventional now. good for tampa.

As of today, the NY MTA has raised the price of crossing the Verrazanno to $15 bucks one way. This horse will never pay enough to cross one time.

I'm also quite curious of who else is pointing to that race. *If* Verrazano wins this race, we could question what he has run against (much like what is going on in regards to Flashback).

In my opinion, this new points system has made the Derby trail more interesting.

I was thinking the same thing. What will he be facing. Hopefully not much of a field and he wins for fun. Then he will take a ton of money in the derby and be up the track.

Not saying I like this horse, but his competition will be fine considering nothing has run against a stellar field and won't face supposed top competition until derby day imo.

Isn't that the whole point of the Derby point system though? The top 3 horses in each of these races will accumulate the most points. Barring major upsets (I've Struck A Nerve), the best horses are accumulating the points, which then puts them into the starting gate on the first Saturday in May. Not saying I've Struck A Nerve is not one of the best horses, just that he was a major upset. The point system is eliminating horses that shouldn't be in the Derby anyway. I think I like the way it is set up now.

My point was more...*if* Pletcher's champion allowance horse wins the Tampa Bay Derby, I would be curious to see who he faces, and if we should disregard his brilliance because he has faced so-called nobodies...much like what is being said about Flashback.
