All Early Bird nominees to the 2013 Santa Anita Derby (Closing Date, December 22, 2012) are automatically eligible to the Robert B. Lewis Stakes with all fees waived. Why not, they put there hard earned money into racing, why not give it back. All jockeys want a piece of the purse, the trainers want a piece of the action. To hell with the players, with the exceptions that the avarage player have to wheel almost every race in the pick 5 to win the darn thing, leaves the big boys to take a good Pick 5 (Plus(more money for the track on bets.)

a horse who is one of the favorites right now could stumble in the last prep and run 4th and then wouldnt get in.

On another site someone posted the scenario that Shangahi Bobby wins the Preakness after not qualifying for the Derby.

Those 50-pointer races will be well-fought, no hiding from each other.
