Please send all your prayers and energy to Ramon Dominguez so that he may heal up well and very fast and get back riding with us soon. His injury is a serious one, to his skull and he needs our support. If anyone has up to date news on him, feel free to post on my page. He is the greatest example every aspiring jockey should follow, as a rider, as a person, as a husband and as a father. I will include him in my prayers every day until I see him back in the saddle and that he may yet again give me the privilege of riding with him and hopefully I'll finally finish first for a change. If there's anyone I'd rather finish second to, it will always be Ramon Dominguez, my idol and my inspiration. Get well soon my friend. — with Sharon Wyatt Dominguez.

Ramon Dominguez, who was diagnosed with a skull fracture as a result of a spill last Friday at Aqueduct, continues to improve and was transferred Tuesday from Jamaica Hospital in Queens to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center on Manhattan's East Side where he is currently undergoing further evaluation.

"Ramon is doing really well and resting comfortably," said the three-time Eclipse champion jockey's wife, Sharon Dominguez. "With an injury like this, we thought it was important to seek a second opinion, which is why we decided to change hospitals."

Recovery Begins Slowly for Award-Winning Jockey

Postby Southieboy » Tue Jan 22, 2013 8:09 pm

On Friday, in the seventh race at Aqueduct, Ramon Dominguez, 36, was injured when his mount, Convocation, clipped heels with another horse near the top of the stretch. Convocation fell instantly, flinging Dominguez hard to the track. The horses were tightly bunched, and it looked as if a trailing horse, hurdling to avoid Convocation, landed and struck Dominguez in the head. It happened in a flash.

According to the few people who have seen him, doctors were apparently keeping him sedated to make sure he remained as calm as possible and to prevent complications.

Jockey Ramon Dominguez has been transferred from New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center to Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, NY, and has begun inpatient therapy for a skull fracture sustained in a January 18 spill at Aqueduct Racetrack.

“Ramon continues to do well and is improving every day,” said the three-time Eclipse champion jockey’s wife, Sharon Dominguez. “He was transferred to Burke on Wednesday, completed initial evaluations on Thursday, and started a brain injury rehabilitation program on Friday. As Ramon takes the next steps in his treatment, he and I would like to thank everyone again for the continued support and prayers. Although his injury will take time to heal, Ramon is on the road to a full recovery.”

There is currently no timetable for Ramon Dominguez’s release from Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.

A native of Venezuela, Dominguez led all riders on the NYRA circuit in 2012 with 322 victories and led the nation in earnings with $25.6 million. Fellow New York jockeys John Velazquez and Javier Castellano accepted the 2012 Eclipse Award on behalf of Dominguez at the awards ceremony on January 19 in Hallandale Beach, Fla.
