Closing Weekend at Woodbine - What will 2013 look like?

Postby Promoter » Wed Dec 12, 2012 3:04 pm

Woodbine closes their thoroughbred season this weekend. Some good races on tap including the Valedictorian, but the bigger question is what will 2013 look like? Some trainers are already looking to move to New York and the season will be shorter, but the track will still be top notch and I won't be able to give up the turf racing there. Hoping for the best!

What if the Canuck government stops subsidizing Woodbine Racetrack with slots, as has been rumoured?

The government is already committed to taking the slots money away. I believe they have offered $50 million in transition funds and they are working to keep the purses at Woodbine at about 80% of current levels, but less racing is on the table and less investment into breeding for sure.

Thank goodness they still have more winners than any other track. That should help the handle..
