Portion of Hollywood Park property for sale

Postby Southieboy » Thu Oct 25, 2012 5:51 am

As the California Horse Racing Board and Thoroughbred interests in the Golden State grabble with the feared demolition and closing of Hollywood Park as early as next fall, the owners of the Inglewood, Calif., property have put 60 acres of the property on the real estate market.

The owner, Bay Meadows Land Co., has listed the parcel with CBRE (formerly Coldwell Banker) of Los Angeles with an asking price of $95 million. The land runs along Pincay Street from Prairie Avenue to the east and borders the outer racing oval from approximately the quarter pole to the three-eighths pole. The parcel being peddled currently is used as a parking lot and also includes the entrance to the stable area from the north.

Asking 95 million, they're asking for the moon in Inglewood.

This is not new , guys.
This chunk of land has been on and off the market for the last 10 years. Both Churchill and BMLC have tried to sell it because they don't use it. It hasn't been needed for parking on race days since the last time the BC was held there.
This is the same land Churchill Downs tried to sell to Walmart several years ago. The sale fell through because the Inglewood voters defeated the ballot measure to let them build without doing any impact studies. That was when Churchill bailed out and sold to BMLC. This is the parcel of land that has been leased out to various organizations over the years. LAPD, Highway Patrol and LAFD all lease the land from training exercises and drills throughout the year. The Forum leases it for overflow parking for big events. This time of year part of it is a Christmas Tree lot. And so on and so forth.

TT, go do the math and take a look at the figures

One amusement park, paid 16.5 million for a roller coaster and paid if off in one year.

Right location, It's solid gold.

According to an update on the Paulick Report piece, Walmart does own it.

That's interesting. I know at the time they were making it sound like the sale of the land was dependent on the ballot measure passing, but they may very well have already bought it. So it must be Walmart selling it?

For whom the bells toll.
America must have the highest "goofs per capita" rating of any nation outside Antarctica.
