Should a specific amount of the take out go horses if the owner wants to retire the animal
We all seen owners look at a horse as a piece of meat or a hay burner. The owner wants to get rid of the animal and has no where to put it.
So what do they do, they run it until it breaks down or sell them to killers.
Now the big question.
Should the horse have the right to go to a retirement farm instead being van off to the slaughter house or be ran into the ground and break down at some fair.
I say yes, they have the right to retire without being killed.
There must be a voice for the horse
Right now, they should divert funds to take care of horses.
Divert the funds from the owners share or the trainers share.
Bettors do not own horses nor train horses.
Stop killing the bettors.

I agree with you, what they have is enough, I feel the money should come out of what they have now.
I never have more than 3-4 horses at the same time, its all I can afford and its as much I can mentally keep up with without spending my entire day dealing with the day to day issues that seem to pop up with them. I try very hard to always make sure my horses are well take care of when they are done racing. But I don't think you can ask owners to pick up more of the bills to subsidize horses that can't run anymore. Things like the purse deductions for CARMA are about as far as you can go.
Tracks should find away to come up with some money to support retired or unwanted racehorses. There is no way with a 9.00 Beer that some of that money could not go to the cause, or make the beer 9.50 and give .50 cents to the fund. Tracks raise prices on many items every year, people are numb to it, but instead of it going into the pockets of the track they could help the horses. Or do things and encourage fans to pitch in with small donations, jockey photo day, backstretch tours etc.
If you have owners like the losers that ran the 11 year old that broke down at fairs off a 3 year layoff, there is no help for horses who are owned by people like that. That is the sad fact of this sport.

I can say this, the CHRB should divert funds to a ranch somewhere in California to take care of these unwanted horses.
I believe that a curtain amount of take out should go to the ranch.
don't rise it, but give them the money instead of some marketing program on the books.

You mean send some money to the farms instead of putting up the Air Brushed Chantal billboads all over town

You are 100 % right on this.
If HP ever closes, maybe they could use some of the money from those purses if it doesn't disappear.
They will spend the money so fast, it will make a New York Second look slow.
